It is a custom in Rwanda for someone with resources to offer help to someone poor. This is done within a valuesystem of helping someone to help themselves and is not charity. There is a stage of public declaration and acceptance. The local words"gukura ubwatsi" describe this step. After this, the beneficiary of the trust, works hard to usethis assistance to better his / her circumstances. In the fullness of time (not clock time) when surplus is available, the beneficiary comes back to the person who provided the help, with the fruits of his / her labour (a cow,or goat which is not the original one received) and makes a public gesture of returning the help received. This stage is called "kwitura".
